Artist’s Statement: Our world is a complicated place with different viewpoints, cultures, and opinions and miscommunication can often prove fatal. In these particularly difficult times, I have had the good fortune to know and talk with genuinely motivated, intelligent and passionate people who have put their heart and soul into trying to make things right. The Urban Extraction series pays homage to this passion and to the dangerous aesthetic of the machinery created to protect those who go off to war, those who dedicate their lives to protecting us. The patron and his designers have, in an effort to make the soldier’s mission safer, created mechanical works of incredible power and high technology that, like fire-breathing dragons of mythology, can be deadly in their graceful beauty. © Mara Jevera Fulmer, 2004
